Donald Trump supporters took to social media to call for a boycott of the new ‘Star Wars’ film, ‘Rogue One,’ after accusing the movie of being anti-Trump.
Under the hashtag #DumpStarWars, supporters of the president-elect accused the movie of reshooting scenes to include anti-Trump messages and claim it portrays the galactic Empire as white supremacists.
“I think it’s ludicrous,” WBAI-FM Chief Film Critic Mike Sargent told the FOX Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo.
Sargent then reminded viewers it was not the first time there have been calls to boycott a movie in the “Star Wars” series.
“If you remember, they were trying to boycott the last ‘Star Wars’ because it showed a Storm Trooper that happened to be a person of color,” he said. “And obviously that worked well, because now it’s the third most money-making film of all time.”
Jack Posobeic, the progenitor of the trending Twitter hashtag #DumpStarWars has been rallying against Disney and Lucasfilm’s newest endeavor ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY for the last week. His gripe is that writers who worked on the film (like Gary Witta, and Chris Weitz) had made the film with an Anti-Donald Trump message…but he never provided any evidence to support his claim. And the only bit of evidence he’s ever brought forward…is proven to be an outright lie.
Majority Report Contributor Michael Brooks is hosting the show for Sam Seder today. In this clip, Michael goes over the brouhaha surrounding tweets sent out by the writers of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” The tweets expressed disdain for racism and bigotry, which made Trump supporting white supremacists work up some conspiracy theories and then complain all over Twitter that it isn’t fair that “Star Wars” isn’t a safe space for them.
With ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS story just a few days away, it only makes sense that there would be some kind of controversy coming out about it in order to drive attention to someone (or something) online. In this case its Citizens For Trump’s Special Project Director James Posobiec running his mouth on twitter about how the writers of the new film are making it an Anti-Trump movie.
I can’t believe I said this, but I’m begging for an anti-Trump message to break this monotony.
appabend REVIEWS Rogue One A Star Wars Story. Seriously, one anti-Trump message could at least break the monotony.
