Wonderful morning, afternoon, or evening, wherever you are in the world,
Just some of the latest news you have to know:
Top Democrat says Trump firing of Mueller could provoke ‘constitutional crisis’
It seems as though a Virginia Democrat, Senator Mark Warner, took to the Senate floor for a speech, in which, he said the firing of Mueller or the pardoning of those charged in the special counsel’s investigation would represent crossing his “red line”.
All this is fairly serious considering that the dynamic poises to intensify the already infected political atmosphere covering the investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.
“I believe it is up to every member of this institution, Republican or Democrat, to make a clear and unambiguous statement that any attempt by this president to remove special counsel Mueller from his position or to pardon key witnesses in an effort to shield them from accountability. would be a gross abuse of power”, Warner explained.
Warner made aware that any effort to remove Mueller “has the potential to provoke a constitutional crisis.”
Asked this past weekend if he was thinking about seeking to push out Mueller, Trump responded, “No, I’m not.” And a White House lawyer has consistently reported the president is not contemplating any pardons. Trump cannot directly fire Mueller, but critics point out he could demand that leading Justice Department officials fire Mueller and then remove them if they don’t follow through.
Mueller ought to have gotten a warrant to get hold of Donald Trump’s transition team emails, he persisted, and “you wear a belt and suspenders when you’re going after the president”.
Warner’s speech occurs as Mueller is dealing with a growing number of Republicans who have been critical of Mueller’s probe for being biased towards Trump.
Republican members of the House Judiciary Committee ripped into Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who hired Mueller as special counsel, after it was exposed that a top FBI agent on the investigation authored text messages disparaging Trump and praising his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
“Just this weekend one major news organization indicated that special council Mueller might be engaged in a ‘coup’ against the president”, The Senator stated, even applying air quotes referencing the “coup”.
Nevertheless, most Republicans in Congress have not called for Mueller’s termination, AP reported, and many Republicans go on to urge against intervention in his investigation.
“I remain convinced that when this is all said and done, Mueller is going to only pursue things that are true, and he will do it in a fair and balanced way,” explained Senator Marco Rubio, a Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
