Republican Senators Mike Lee, of Utah and Jerry Moran, of Kansas joined up with Senators Rand Paul, of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine. Republicans hold onto a 52-48 majority and the two senators’ opposition indicates the bill is effectively dead on arrival.
“Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now & work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Dems will join in!” Trump tweeted.
Trump seems certain that a straight repeal of ObamaCare is a shoo-in, but moderate Republicans might feel pressure to vote in opposition to the legislation. It is also not clear how many Democrats would support the move, Edmund DeMarche at Fox News documented.
Trump’s tweet was in stark contrast to his faith in the Senate just hours before when he forecasted the legislation would pass.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., acknowledged the roadblock and, like Trump, stated he plans a repeal vote. McConnell also pointed out a two-year delay for a substitute.
“Regretfully, it’s now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful,” McConnell mentioned in a statement. “So, in the coming days, the Senate will vote to take up the House bill with the first amendment in order being what a majority of the Senate has already supported in 2015 and that was vetoed by then-President Obama: a repeal of Obamacare with a two-year delay to provide for a stable transition period to a patient-centered health care system that gives Americans access to quality, affordable care.”
It was the second straight failure for McConnell, who had to terminate a vote on an earlier version of the bill last month when defeat became inescapable.
Trump failed to rally support for what has been the GOP’s trademark concern for seven years – ever since President Obama and the Democrats passed the Affordable Care Act in 2010.
“This second failure of #Trumpcare is proof positive that the core of this bill is unworkable. #ProtectOurCare,” Schumer tweeted.
Shut the hell up a** hole.
Republicans won the White House and full control of Congress in large part on the basis of their assurances to repeal and replace the health law but have battled to overcome their deep internal divisions and deliver.
The Associated Press noted that Democrats “could barely contain their glee.”
“This second failure of Trumpcare is proof positive that the core of this bill is unworkable,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated. “Rather than repeating the same failed, partisan process yet again, Republicans should start from scratch and work with Democrats on a bill that lowers premiums, provides long term stability to the markets and improves our health care system.”
Nice concept. The issue is that Democrats have publicly promised to obstruct and stand against anything and everything that Trump and the Republicans try to do.
Let’s get real people. The Republicans screwed all of us for 8 years by kissing Obama’s Muslim ass and now we are paying the price.
Trump’s plan to replace ‘failing’ Obamacare in TATTERS after Senators bail on health bill.
DONALD Trump wants to simply scrap Obamacare and start again after his current healthcare bill was dealt a fatal blow following additional dissent within the Republican party.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blamed “unprecedented obstructionism” and announced that the upper chamber would vote on a bill to simply repeal Obamacare without any replacement in the coming days.
Senators Mike Lee and Jerry Moran each announced on Monday night via Twitter that they could not support the healthcare bill in its current form, effectively torpedoing the revised version of the bill.
Mr Moran said: ”We should not put our stamp of approval on bad policy.
“Furthermore, if we leave the federal government in control of everyday healthcare decisions, it is more likely that our healthcare system will devolve into a single-payer system, which would require a massive federal spending increase.”
The Republicans do hold a 52–48 majority in the Senate but with four GOP members opposed, alongside all the Democrats, it is now impossible for the party to muster the 50 votes needed to bring the bill to the floor.
In a tweet following the loss of support for the Senate Republican bill, Trump said: “Republicans should just REPEAL failing ObamaCare now and work on a new Healthcare Plan that will start from a clean slate. Democrats will join in!”
Democrats have insisted that they will not cooperate with any Republican legislation that repeals President Barack Obama’s landmark healthcare law, but would work in a bipartisan way to improve it.
At a dinner with Republican senators on Monday evening, Mr Trump reportedly said the party would look like “dopes” if they couldn’t pass the bill.
According to a source, Mr Trump said: “If the Republicans have the House, Senate and the presidency and they can’t pass this health care bill they are going to look weak.
“How can we not do this after promising it for years?”
When asked whether the White House knew further defections were coming the official said: “Why would we have a dinner like that if we knew people were going to drop out?”
The White House has spent nearly seven months on a health care overhaul, with hopes it would ease the path to tax reform later.
The Establishment continue to push forward in their attempt to shut down the alternative press that is rapidly growing and pushing out the faltering mainstream media. As the EU demands social media sites censor fake news and Reddit, Facebook and other sites begin blocking Fusion Laced Illusions and other alternative media it is now alarmingly evident that their truly is a war on free speech.
