Reacting to a Freedom of Information Act request, Washington, D.C., law enforcement have released body camera video from the arrest of a dude who opened fire in a D.C.-area pizza restaurant due to the fact he thought it to be part of an elite pedophile ring run by influential members of the Democratic Party, which includes Hillary Clinton, as part of a false right-wing conspiracy theory referred to as “Pizzagate.”
Reveal, a publication from the Center for Investigative Reporting, unveiled a portion of the video last Friday.
1/ More than a year ago, we asked D.C. police for bodycam footage of #Pizzagate shooter Edgar Maddison Welch’s arrest.
We finally have that never-before-seen footage. pic.twitter.com/ayJhyGppSb

The video shows the initial arrest of Edgar Maddison Welch, 28, a conspiracy theorist who allegedly fired three shots inside of pizza restaurant Comet Ping Pong on December 4, 2016.
“What were you doing in the location?” one officer can be heard questioning Welch in the freshly released video.
“Making sure there’s nothing there,” Welch reacts.
“Regarding what?” the official asks him.
“Pedophile ring,” Welch states.
While the curious officer is taken aback by Welch’s reply, the officer wearing the body camera can be heard detailing, “Pizzagate, he’s talking about Pizzagate.”
Welch, a self-described listener of radio host Alex Jones, came 350 miles from North Carolina to Comet Ping Pong with ideas to investigate the restaurant as a supposed location of child sex trafficking.
But Welch changed his plans once he showed up at the restaurant.
Conveying to The New York Times his “heart breaking over the thought of innocent people suffering,” Welch rather chose upon a rescue quest.
Transporting a .38 revolver and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, Welch went into the restaurant and opened fire at the back wall.
After law enforcement encased the restaurant-and finding no proof of the child sex dungeon reported by conspiracy theorists-Welch surrendered.
In the fresh body camera video posted by Reveal, law enforcement can be observed taking out a pocket knife from Welch’s pocket and asking him about the added weapons in his car.
Authorities also talk about how useless their helmets and ballistic shields would have been versus Welch’s AR-15.
In an additional clip from the body camera video, Welch can be observed calmly speaking with an officer beside the open door of a departmental SUV.
The authorities on the scene had taken off Welch’s handcuffs and he stands with his hands on his hips in a casual position.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s General Orders state that authorities are not to take off handcuffs on arrested persons “until the prisoner is in a secure area,” so it is not apparent why the gunman was uncuffed.
The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., hasn’t replied to demand for clarification…..
Subsequently after his arrest, Welch confessed “the intel on this wasn’t 100 percent,” , but wouldn’t fully disclaim the Pizzagate conspiracy theory.
In 2017, Welch was sentenced to four years in the penitentiary.
The Pizzagate theory is still propagated by far-right outlets online, premised on the option that references to pizza in the leaked emails of Clinton campaign manager John Podesta are in fact coded references to child sex slaves.
Pizzagate has since transformed into the QAnon conspiracy theory, which retains that president Donald Trump is working in top secret to overthrow a Satanic pedophile elite.
In 2019, Comet Ping Pong was yet again attacked by a supporter of the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, when a 22-year-old California dude purportedly tried to set fire to the restaurant.
